Day 9 - Krka National Park

Day 9 Krka National Park

We caught the 09:00 bus from Sibenik for the 20 km trip to Skradin which is the entrance to the Park. The main attraction is a host of waterfalls that can be found as the Krka river winds it's way down the valley. Travertine is the fundamental phenomenon of the Krka National Park. It is formed when limestone settles out of the water and accumulates on Travertine building organisms (mosses and algae) and creates various geomorphological forms that create these magnificent waterfalls.
To get to the waterfalls we had to take a boat from Skradin to the upper entrance to the Park. The boats leave every hour on the hour from 08:00-17:00 and return every hour on the half hour until 17:30 until 29 May and until 18:30 from June - August.
A wooden walk-way takes one through forest like terrain with emerald green water plunging over rocks covered in bright green mosses and algae. It is absolutely awe inspiring.
The return bus to Sibenik leaves Skradin at 12:45 and 17:00. One needs two hours to walk through the park. If you are running out of time you can walk to Skradinski Buk and catch the bus to Losivac at 12:00 and then catch the bus that leaves Skradin at 12:45 at Losivac back to Sibenik.
We bought some wild asparagus and broad beans at the market for dinner, it was so good! Real Croatian seasonal fare.
