Day 10 - Sibenik to Ugljan Island

Day 10: Sibenik to Biograd an Moru - ferry to Pasman, Pasman Island. Cycle to Preko, Ugljan Island: 95 km, 6hr 56 min.

We had an early start at 06:15 on a clear windless day. There were a lot of kilometers ahead of us,so thought it best to get going early. The  route was pretty straight forward except when Ian had had enough of the D8 and the traffic and decided to turn down to a village, just to find that the road ended there. This happened twice, which added a few extra kilometers to our estimated distance. After 63 km we got to Biograd an Moru where we took the ferry to Pasman Island. It was another 32 km cycle to Preko on Ugljan Island  which is connected to Preko by a bridge. It was a flat route most of the way and quite hot but we were able to make good time and got to Preko in 6hr 56 min. Pasman Island is popular with the tourists for it's scenic cycling routes.
Along the way we saw 4 dead snakes in the road and it made us think of driving along the Road to De Mond in summer. These are not poisonous snakes but quite big and creepy.
It was the first day that we have cycled in Croatia where we have got to see the amazing colour of the water. One has to concentrate quite hard not to cycle off the road with all the beautiful views along the way.
Ugljan Island is known as the Olive Island. Top quality oils are pressed here. They also make soap from olive oil and of course there are many different types of preserved olives.
We found a lovely apartment with a gorgeous view of the sea from the patio. This was our most expensive  accommodation  to date, but worth it for the view. Lots of Mozzies though so be warned if you decide to visit this island.
The last few places we have stayed we have found through the local tourist agent, they are usually good, but the agent does add KN 50-70 as their commission.

Olive and fig trees and islands along the way.

Bridge from Pasman to Ugljan Island.

View of Zadar from Preko.
