About Us

Six years ago we wrote:

The children are taking flight, we're on the mature side of 55, the Big Boss has starting chopping wood in our forest, so before the joints seize up and with the opportunity of long leave from Ian's anaesthetic practice, we decided its time for a little adventure. So to combine our love of cycle touring, our interests in wine, food and gardening, and a passion for the environment, we have planned a bicycle trip across Western Europe in aid of rhino conservation. Hence the "Wobbling Winos".

We have lived in Somerset West, near Cape Town in South Africa for the past 24 years. Jenny is a busy wife and mother, successful fundraiser, and is very involved in numerous community projects. She has an active interest in food and wine, and is a keen cyclist, usually finishing the Argus Cycle Tour before the rest of the family have breakfast.

Ian is an anaesthetist and qualified ergonomist. He enjoys trail running, fishing and braaing. Both he and Jenny are avid gardeners.

We have previously toured by bicycle in Greece, Spain and Portugal, as well as around the Western Cape, and find this a wonderful way to experience a country. The pace is right, the locals are welcoming, calories are burnt while traveling and it's cheap!

Four years ago: Now it's time to cycle again. Just one month this time, and we are ready to tackle a route from Prague to Paris.
