Day 4 Ston to Korcula 74km
We had a slightly later start this morning, we had just left the village when we were
faced with a 4 km 8% hill to climb, that got the heart rate going. Our route followed the rolling hills along the rugged Peljesac Peninsula, which is one of the wine producing regions of Croatia. Unfortunately the sun did not show it's face again today so could not enjoy the full beauty of the coast line but is was still very scenic. We ran out of steam after 34 km so we turned off the main road and cycled down to Trstenik to recharge our batteries with a delicious omelette and cup of coffee.
Shasha from the DVino wine bar had suggested we cycle through the Dingac (Dingatch) area. To get to the road from Trstenik you have to ride to the big tree in the centre of the village and turn right, this single track road takes you high up on the mountain along the coast through ancient Pravac Mali vineyards. What a climb but absolutely breathtaking and worth every minute of the hard work.We got down to 4 km/ h going up to the tunnel that takes you to the village of Potomje. So pleased Ian changed the back cog to a bigger one!
Tasted some excellent wine at Matusko before setting off to climb the pass with a treacherous decent into Orobic and then the ferry to Korcula.
