Day 13 - Lopar to Cres

Day 13: Lopar to Krk and Cres. 26km, 1 hr 30.

Another early start to catch the 05:15 ferry to Valbriska, Krk Island, then the ferry from Valbriska to Merag, Cres Island. We decided not to cycle to Krk town from Valbriska as rain had been  predicted for the day, but rather to catch the next ferry to Cres Island. Fortunately we only had to wait for half an hour as it is pretty bleak at Valbriska. Ian had a coffee there and I had my usual cup of hot water with a little milk for my Rooibos tea bag, it works so well.
The ferry to Cres took half an hour and then we had a huge 12 km climb to Cres town. It took us an hour and a half to get to Cres at a snail's pace!
Cres is so green after the stark landscape of Pag. The purple flowering Sage is in full bloom and was all along the way with some wild crimson cyclamens and wild rose bushes. The yellow Broom is also in full flower.
We made a beeline for the coffee shop as we were cold and needed some sustenance; hot chocolate did the trick and revived us. Our accommodation towards the harbour is perfect with Wifi, enough space to hang our washing and a balcony. Couldn't have asked for more.
Cres is a charming seaside village and a good place for a rest day. Our legs and bums needed a break. We discovered a quaint little wine shop tucked away in an alleyway. The winemaker who served us sources his grapes in Istria. We bought a Teran, a full-bodied red with very firm tannins in spite of being a 2007 (WWS 6).
